TRIPLE THREAT $1,000,000 PRIZE PURSE

VANS ANNOUNCES RECORD $1000,000 SURFING PRIZE PURSE

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing presented by Rockstar Energy Drink makes history today, announcing the Triple Crown - Triple Threat bonus purse that makes this prestigious Hawaiian series the first $1,000,000 stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals Dream Tour. More than 150 surfers from 17 nations have a crack at the loot as the series kicks off this Thursday, November 12, at Haleiwa on Oahu's North Shore.

Vans is very proud to announce that the Triple Crown - Triple Threat will award $50,000 to the men's Triple Crown series champion, an extra $50,000 for the Billabong Pipeline Masters winner, a $50,000 bonus to the ASP's men's world champion, and a $25,000 bonus to the women's Triple Crown champion. The $175,000 Triple Threat is in addition to the existing $825,000 in event prize money, making for a $1million total purse.

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will culminate with the final battle for the 2009 ASP world title at the Billabong Pipeline Masters, December 8-20. Not since 2006 and the world title battle between Kelly Slater (Florida) and Andy Irons (Hawaii), has there been such a climax to the showdown. This year it will be between Australians Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning, and on that final day, it is possible that one surfer could walk away with a record $230,000.

"2009 has been an incredible year for pro surfing and this Hawaii showdown will be a fitting finale," said Doug Palladini, Vice President of Marketing at Vans.

"Vans has a 43-year history of giving back to action sports and I can think of no better way to carry on that tradition than with the Triple Threat bonus purse. On behalf of all the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing staff, our event partners Billabong, Reef, O'Neill, Gidget and the ASP, we are proud to share our aloha with the talented surfers who have made the Vans Triple Crown what it is today."

NICE DAY

It's been pretty warm the last couple of days. I've been surfing in the mornings, but today I had an afternoon session and got to enjoy wearing trunks! I forgot my topper at home so I wore my RONIN t-shirt just to keep the sun off my back. Current water temp in Kamogawa is 23 C (73 F) and air temp the same. The sea and air temp in Hawaii today was 26 C (78 F). Not much different.
Of course I was asked a million times, "aren't you cold?" Not at all. It was like those cool mornings on the North shore, or the many secret rivermouths of Maui.
Unfortunately, winter is just around the corner, and I'll be forced into a fullsuit everyday.

"Eating Fruits the Right Way

Eating Fruits the right way goes a long way towards detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

Eat them on an empty stomach
Don't eat them after your meals!

Eating ‘dessert’ in the form of fruits has become a habit in many cultures. Not many people realize, however, that eating fruits after meals cause the food to ferment, which in turn causes bloating, or gas. If you eat two slices of bread, for example, followed by a slice of fruit, it will be difficult for the fruit to go straight through the stomach and into the intestines. The moment the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil. The fruit mixes with other foods and putrefy them, producing gas. Hence you bloat.

If you burp after eating water-melon, or feel like running to the toilet every time you eat a banana, its time to eat your fruit on an empty tummy!"

EVERYBODY GO SURF

This morning's surf was pretty crowded but fun. It was a little tricky to find the good ones, but when you  did, you could get a pretty long ride.

Check out the blog of Hawaii's GRACE SURF shaper, KEITH UMEDA.  It looks like they've been scoring some good outer reef spots around O'ahu.

SHOWERS!

Something we've been wanting for a long time...SHOWERS at SEASIDE! The city is putting in showers at the main bathrooms, and I heard at the Kakou bathrooms as well. Last summer we had temporary showers down the beach near the summer beach houses. Now we'll have permanent ones.
